Todd Mattingly has experience representing clients in various technology-based transactions, including licenses, agreements for technology development, transfer, acquisition, joint development, product development and product distribution, franchising, as well as various other intellectual property agreements in the medical, e-commerce, energy, telecommunications, financial, software, and mechanical/electrical industries.

Todd has experience representing clients in various patent, trademark, copyright and other intellectual property matters, including licensing, technology transfer, patent, trademark and copyright preparation and prosecution, mergers and acquisitions, franchising, due diligence investigations and opinions, strategic planning, portfolio analysis, litigation, and client counseling.

Todd has also acted as pro tem in-house General Counsel and Patent Counsel for a number of technology companies – including the creation and management of the in-house legal function for such companies for extended periods of time.

During law school, Todd was a patent examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in the technology areas of hydraulic control systems, combustion systems, composite structures, and jet engines.

Prior to law school, Todd was a program manager at General Electric in the Aerospace Division where he worked on the design, development, and manufacturing of aircraft control systems, aircraft avionics, and aircraft radar systems.

Representative Matters

Represented various companies regarding intellectual property rights pertaining to licensing, product development and distribution agreements.

Represented various oil service companies in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to downhole oil tools in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Represented a computer company in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to computer software and hardware in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Represented various computer memory companies in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to computer memory devices in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Represented various computer companies in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to microprocessors and related software in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Represented a consumer electronics maker in formulating a complex set of licensing agreements establishing an industry wide standard for 3D TV.

Acted as interim general counsel for a technology startup company that was a joint venture of one of the largest oil companies in the world and one of the largest oil service companies in the world including creating the legal department and forming operating units around the globe.

Represented a telecommunications company in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to wireless communications in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Represented various medical device companies in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to medical devices in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Represented a medical research institute in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to medical diagnostic systems in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Represented an electrical device company in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications directed to electrical power transmission devices in the U.S., the PCT, and foreign patent offices.

Provided patent and trade secret litigation for a number of clients - covering technologies such as polymer catalysts, injection molding, computer software and hardware, cell phone technology, electrical power distribution, and 3D cinema.
