Stephen Crain is a trial lawyer in the firm's Houston office. He is the firm-wide leader of Bracewell's Energy Litigation Group and has served on the firm's Management Committee.
He focuses predominantly on matters arising in the energy industry (including representing power developers and producers, power traders, and suppliers to the energy industry) disputes involving alleged violations of securities laws (including representing public companies, officers and directors, and special committees), and large-scale construction disputes.
Stephen is recommended in US Legal 500 in Energy Litigation and is ranked in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers (General Commercial Litigation–Texas). Chambers notes his "strong market endorsement" and quotes sources that say Stephen "is very bright and knowledgeable in the energy field” and that "he's diligent, he's on top of things, he's pragmatic; he takes complex situations and boils them down to their fundamentals and provides practical advice on how to move forward."
Stephen has first chair jury and non-jury trial experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in state and federal district courts. He has also represented numerous clients in obtaining injunctive relief from state and federal courts. He has handled appeals in state appellate courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Stephen also has arbitrated several U.S. and international matters to awards.
He has been appointed as an arbitrator in several arbitrations and recently served as an arbitrator in an American Arbitration Association arbitration involving an international contract dispute.
