Nancy Morrison O'Connor represents domestic and multi-national corporate clients in labor and employment disputes and transactions - investigating, negotiating and defending claims concerning employment discrimination, labor and union matters, employee benefits, immigration, corporate responsibility and integrity and civil rights.
Ms. O'Connor represents client interests both in compliance and in dispute management in general commercial employment settings. She has conducted numerous sensitive and significant internal investigations. An experienced negotiator, she manages both collective bargaining and individual executive employment compensation matters and provides guidance on labor-related issues in corporate transactional matters. She is particularly familiar with employment issues in the hospitality, energy, retail, academic, telecommunications, and security sectors.
Ms. O'Connor has successfully tried and argued numerous cases before federal district and appellate courts and before federal, state and local agencies including the National Labor Relations Board; the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; the International Trade Commission; the U.S. Departments of Commerce, Education, Health and Human Services, Justice and Labor and the Federal Communications Commission. She also has private arbitration experience. She has successfully negotiated pre-litigation resolution of disputes.
Prior to joining Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, Ms. O'Connor was a partner with Fulbright & Jaworski in Houston TX and Washington, D.C. She also served as Deputy General Counsel and Vice President, Human Resources and Employee Benefits, for Allbritton Communications Company, where she had primary responsibility for all labor, employment and benefits matters for the group's broadcast and cable television facilities and affiliated companies, as well as responsibility for compliance with federal and local statutory and regulatory requirements and the selection and supervision of outside counsel.
In the public sector, Ms. O'Connor was appointed Litigation Expert for the Office of Research Integrity, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she supervised the prosecution of government scientists in allegations of scientific misconduct with respect to the discovery of the AIDS virus. She has also served as Chair of the Montgomery County (MD) Human Rights Commission and its Case Review Board.
Ms. O'Connor is a frequent speaker and author. She has served as an instructor in the Notre Dame Law School Intensive Trial Advocacy Program since 2004. She has served on the adjunct faculties of both the University of Texas Law School and Baylor College of Medicine.
