Michael Chibib is a partner in the Austin office of Bracewell & Giuliani. His practice involves all aspects of intellectual property litigation, with an emphasis on district court and ITC patent litigation in the areas of semiconductors, telecommunications, electronics, and software. Michael also has experience in IP portfolio counseling.
Prior to joining Bracewell, Michael served as vice president and general counsel of Active Power, Inc., a publicly-traded, environmentally friendly backup power solution provider. Active Power develops and manufactured electro-mechanical energy storage systems utilizing flywheels and high-speed turbines.

Certain Integrated Circuits, Chipsets, and Products Containing Same Including Televisions, 337-TA-786 & 337-TA-822. Prosecuted patent infringement cases on behalf of Freescale Semiconductor before the International Trade Commission investigation involving semiconductor circuits.
Certain Integrated Circuits, Chipsets, and Products Containing Same Including Televisions, Media Players, and Cameras, 337-TA-709. Prosecuted patent infringement case on behalf of Freescale Semiconductor in a three patent International Trade Commission investigation involving semiconductor circuits and packaging technologies.
Certain Semiconductor Chips Having Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory Controllers And Products Containing Same, 337-TA-661. Defended NVIDIA Corp. and its customers in a nine patent ITC investigation involving SDRAM controller patents and the JEDEC standards.
Certain Flash Memory Controllers, Drives, Memory Cards And Media Players And Products Containing Same, 337-TA-619. Defended flash memory controller and flash memory device companies in a multi-patent ITC investigation involving flash memory patents. The ITC found in favor of clients and determined there was no violation by any of the Respondents.
Certain Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Batteries, Components Thereof, And Products Containing Same, 337-TA-600. Prosecuted patent infringement case on behalf of 3M Company involving lithium-ion battery cathode technology. Represented the patent holder in vital cathode technology that reduces the instances of lithium-ion batteries overheating. Asserted the patents against the three largest battery manufacturers and their customers, with all parties taking a license.
Versata Software, Inc., et al. v. Callidus Software, Inc. - (D. Del.) Represented Versata Software in a patent litigation involving two patents relating to enterprise-wide goal management software.
DietGoal Innovations LLC v. Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc. et al. – (E.D. Tex.) Represented defendant Starbucks Corp. in multi-defendant patent litigation relating to interactive website technology.
U.S. Ethernet Innovations, LLC v. Acer, Inc. et al. – (E.D. Tex.) Lead attorney representing NVIDIA Corp. as intervenor in a patent litigation involving four patents directed to network interface technology.
Data Detection Systems, LLC v. BMC Software, Inc. – (S.D. Tex.) Represented BMC Software in patent litigation involving network management software. Lead attorney for BMC against this subsidiary of Acacia Technology, a well-known non-practicing entity.
Wireless Agents, LLC v. Amoi Electronics Inc. et al. - (W.D. Tex.) Represented defendants, Nokia Inc. and LG Electronics Mobilecomm U.S.A., Inc., in litigation involving cell phone configuration technology. Lead attorney, representing two different cell phone manufacturers.
Diagnostic Systems Corp. v. Symantec Corp. et al. - (C.D. Cal.) Represented two separate defendants, BMC Software and Motive, Inc., in patent litigation involving expert system software.
InteliFUSE, Inc. v. Biomedical Enterprises, Inc. - (S.D.N.Y.) Represented defendant Biomedical Enterprises, Inc. in patent infringement litigation involving medical device patents.
Silicon Services Consortium, Inc. et al. v. Applied Materials, Inc. - (W.D. Tex.) Represented defendant Applied Materials, Inc. in litigation involving defense of antitrust claims and assertion of patent infringement claims on 10 patents involving semiconductor fabrication equipment and processes.
Ronald A. Katz Technology Licensing, L.P. v. Comcast Corp. et al. - (D. Del.) Represented XM Satellite Radio in Multi-District Litigation involving intelligent voice recognition and call center patents.
Finisar Corp. v. XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. et al. - (E.D. Tex.) Represented XM Satellite Radio in litigation involving data transmission patents. The patents in suit were found invalid and XM was found not liable.
