Israel Garcia counsels clients in intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and related matters, focusing in the area of mechanical devices and applicable methods. He consults on technologies including mechanical devices, computer interfaces, electrical submersible pumps, wellhead and downhole tools, including seals and hangers. Mr. Garcia is experienced with all aspects of patent prosecution from drafting patent applications to responding to office actions, drafting and filing appeal briefs before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences (BPAI). He coordinates with U.S. and international patent offices to obtain patent protection for a variety of clients and inventors. He represents international clients in the energy, oil and gas, aerospace and defense, medical device and electrical industries.
Mr. Garcia performs due diligence for transactions involving intellectual property portfolios for secured transactions, and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to law school, Mr. Garcia worked for a consulting engineering firm where he designed mechanical building systems. Mr. Garcia also worked at an engineering software company where he provided software support. Prior to joining Bracewell, Mr. Garcia served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Magistrate Judge Peter Ormsby of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Representative Matters
Assessed potential infringement of a client's patent through physical examination of the device on a well-site located in Mexico, located essential documents, interviewed key client personnel in English and Spanish, and reviewed the related findings and documents in the English and Spanish languages.
Consulted on a remote measuring and monitoring system for the displacement of selected objects in hazardous areas.
Obtained a favorable ruling of a patent appeal brief that subsequently led client to apply the protected technology across product lines.
Primarily responsible for drafting a licensing agreement between our client, an energy company, and a third party for exploiting our client's piping technology.
Ongoing representation of a Guatemalan minor in immigration proceedings on a pro bono basis to seek asylum protection.
