Susan Molinari To Join Firm's Government Affairs Practice
September 9, 2008
WASHINGTON (Sept. 9, 2008) -- Former New York Congresswoman Susan Molinari will join the Washington DC office of the law and public affairs firm of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP. The four-term Congresswoman joins the firm as a non-attorney Senior Principal in its government relations and strategy section. Her official start date will be Monday, October 6, 2008.
In March 2005, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani joined the firm and opened its highly successful New York office. Mayor Giuliani stated, in announcing Ms. Molinari’s addition to firm: “I am so pleased to be welcoming Susan Molinari to our firm. Having known her since the earliest days of her career, I watched her develop into one of the most trusted political voices on the scene today. I asked her to join us in order to bring even more strength to our top-flight government relations and strategic communications team in Washington.”
“I am excited to be joining Bracewell,” Ms. Molinari said. “Bracewell is known for its thoughtful, bipartisan approach to government relations. Bracewell puts substance first and has a great reputation for getting the job done for a marquee list of clients spanning many issue areas. The firm brings together government relations, strategic communications, regulatory counseling, and top-notch legal representation. That’s a great combination for meeting client needs on a number of fronts.”
Ms. Molinari represented New York’s 13th and 14th Congressional Districts in Congress from 1990 until retiring in 1997. Previously, she served for four years on the New York City Council. After Congress, she co-anchored a morning news program for the Columbia Broadcasting System, and she also served as the chief executive officer of The Washington Group, an arm of Ketchum Inc.
Firm chairman Patrick Oxford noted: “I have had the opportunity to work with Susan Molinari under the high-pressure conditions of a national campaign. Her poise and candor are frankly reminiscent of Rudy Giuliani. I believe her addition to the firm will establish a clear connection between the services we offer clients in Washington and New York.”
“Susan reinforces the bipartisanship of our shop,” noted government relations co-section head Jim Chapman, a former Democratic member of Congress from Texas. “Ever since Susan and I served in Congress together, I have been impressed with her intelligence and her drive to succeed. Now we will be pleased to give our clients access to the considerable reservoir of good will Susan has stored up in Washington.”
"The addition of Susan Molinari to the Bracewell team advances key firm objectives," noted Scott Segal, co-section head of the firm's government relations section, and founder of the firm's strategic communications group. "Bracewell offers not only traditional government relations and media relations services. We have also launched a service in DC and in Texas called 'public issues management' that brings together all the key analytical tools necessary for a client to put its public affairs needs in context, from media and economic analyses to polling to regulatory advice to a broad variety of consulting. Today's government relations professional must help the client hit on all cylinders; Susan is perfect in that role."
The Bracewell & Giuliani government relations and strategic communications team includes former senior Congressional aides, sub-cabinet officials, and other legislative experts on both sides of the political aisle.
