Brett Busby Joins Appellate Group
March 25, 2008
HOUSTON (March 25, 2008) — Bracewell & Giuliani LLP announced today that J. Brett Busby has joined the firm as a partner in its Houston office, where he will work in the appellate group.
Mr. Busby is an experienced appellate and trial partner who has presented oral argument before the United States Supreme Court and briefed several cases there, including the recent landmark securities case of Stoneridge Investment Partners, LLC v. Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. Mr. Busby has argued before the Texas Supreme Court and the federal and Texas courts of appeals, and he has briefed dozens of cases in federal and state courts at both the appellate and trial level.
Mr. Busby also works with trial counsel to determine pre-trial strategy, prepare dispositive motions, preserve error, and craft the jury charge, and he serves as a member of the Texas Bar Committee on Pattern Jury Charges. He is board certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
“Brett’s distinctive federal experience further extends the reach of the appellate practice and its ability to represent clients all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court,” said partner Warren Harris, head of Bracewell & Giuliani’s appellate practice. “His demonstrated proficiency in managing risk at all stages of the litigation process assures optimum results for our clients,” added Harris.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Busby served as a law clerk to the Honorable Byron R. White (Ret.) and Honorable John Paul Stevens, U.S. Supreme Court, and to the Honorable Gerald Bard Tjoflat, U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit. Prior to joining Bracewell, he practiced at the firms of Mayer Brown LLP and Hogan Dubose & Townsend LLP in Houston.
Mr. Busby is a graduate of Columbia University Law School and Duke University.
