Christopher Staszak Brings Government, Legal and Private Sector Experience

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 7, 2006) – Bracewell & Giuliani today announced Christopher Staszak has joined its Washington, D.C., office where he will practice in the government relations, strategic communications, election and ethics law sections. Staszak brings broad career experience as a former Senate aide, federal law clerk, Capitol Hill press secretary, assistant counsel to the governor of New York and corporate vice president.

Patrick Oxford, managing partner of Bracewell & Giuliani, said, “Chris is a great addition to our government relations and strategic communications team.”

Scott Segal, partner and co-head of the government relations, advocacy and strategy section, noted that Staszak’s “unique combination of government service and private sector expertise makes him a real asset.”

Most recently, Staszak served as an assistant counsel to the governor of New York, where he was a member of the team that provided legal advice to Governor Pataki. Previously, Staszak served as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence E. Kahn.  In this capacity, Staszak worked on complex criminal and civil litigation including copyright infringement, commercial disputes, employment discrimination and a broad range of federal crimes.

Staszak began his career in public service as an aide to U.S. Senator Alfonse M. D'Amato, for whom he worked in both Washington and New York as a staff assistant, deputy press secretary, New York press secretary and campaign spokesman.  He also served as press secretary of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.

In the private sector, Staszak served as vice president of corporate communications for Cantor Fitzgerald L.P. and eSpeed Inc., the global financial services and marketplace technology firm headquartered in Manhattan.  In this role, Staszak oversaw all media relations and communications for both firms in North America, Europe and Asia.  While with Cantor, he was the spokesman for the company on all matters involving the media, including litigation, acquisitions and strategic partnerships.  He also managed the communications campaign surrounding the initial public offering of eSpeed Inc.

Staszak is a graduate of New York Law School and St. Lawrence University.
