Joseph Tirone Joins Bracewell & Giuliani's Energy Practice
November 18, 2009
WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 18, 2009) ¾ Bracewell & Giuliani LLP announced today that Joseph Tirone has joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as a partner in its energy practice. Tirone brings experience in the areas of project development and project finance, particularly in the area of power-generation facilities.
Tirone comes to the firm from McGuireWoods, where he concentrated on project development, project finance, mergers and acquisitions for power facilities, the structuring and negotiation of complex power purchase agreements, construction contracts, equipment procurement agreements, and other matters drawing on his broad-based experience serving energy producers. His work in project development and finance has covered the full spectrum of generating technologies and has included projects as varied as a hydroelectric facility on the Euphrates River; small coal-fired co-generation plants for independent power producers; state-of-the-art utility scale clean coal plants; and various configurations of gas-fired, wind, solar and other renewable generation facilities.
Tirone previously served as VP and Assistant General Counsel to Cognetrix Energy, a leading independent power producer that develops, constructs, and operates power generation assets. In Tirone’s four years at the company, it developed generation facilities with a total capacity exceeding 3,500 megawatts and requiring over $2.5 billion in project financing.
“We’re excited to have Joe on board,” said Alan Rafte, head of Bracewell’s energy practice. “His experience in project development and finance, as well as his background in the energy field, brings great depth to our practice.”
Earlier in his career, Tirone was chosen to open the London office of a prominent U.S. law firm. A member of the British-American Business Association, he has experience in domestic and international project financing transactions.
Tirone is a member of the Energy Bar Association.
