Mike Tankersley Authors Corporate Crisis Management Handbook

DALLAS (Jan. 4, 2006) – Mike Tankersley, a corporate governance expert and partner in the Dallas office of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, has co-authored the handbook Board Leadership for the Company in Crisis, published by the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Turnaround management professional Suzanne Hopgood of The Hopgood Group LLC co-authored the 120-page handbook with Tankersley.
Board Leadership for the Company in Crisis guides corporate directors through the business, financial, legal and communications issues they must consider when their companies prepare for or respond to crisis situations like natural disasters, investigations by government agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission or Department of Justice, financial collapse and bankruptcy, or the loss of significant assets or key executives.
"It was surprising to us that there was not much guidance available to corporate directors on how to go about assuring that their companies are reasonably prepared to face crises, or the key issues the board should be considering when a crisis strikes," said Tankersley, an attorney with 25 years experience advising boards and management teams in responding to crisis situations and governance issues. "Recent events have shown that some companies were very well prepared, while others have floundered, poorly managing, at great cost to the company, both the crisis and their communications with key stakeholder groups."
The handbook reflects a broad range of "best practice" ideas for crisis preparation and response that the authors have collected from their practices over the years and from recent events such as the Gulf Coast hurricanes.
