Glenn A. Ballard Named Houston Bar Association President

Glenn A. Ballard follows long line of Bracewell presidents

HOUSTON (May 19, 2006) – Glenn A. Ballard, Jr., trial partner in the Houston office of Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, was named as the new president of the Houston Bar Association serving a one-year term. Ballard succeeded Randall O. Sorrels of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Matthews & Friend at the HBA's Annual Dinner Meeting at River Oaks Country Club on May 18.

Ballard is the seventh attorney from Bracewell to be president of HBA which has more than 11,500 members and the fifth largest metropolitan bar association in the nation.

Ballard, 49, has served on the HBA board of directors since 1999, holding the offices of president-elect, first vice president, treasurer and two terms as a director. He chaired the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program, Inc., which provides legal services to low-income residents of Harris County, and the Harris County Dispute Resolution Center, which provides free mediation services in Houston. Ballard is a past chair of the HBA Litigation Section, as well as past chair of the HBA Fee Dispute Committee, the Member Benefits Committee, and the Administration of Justice Committee.           

Ballard’s practice focuses on general civil litigation, with expertise in trade secret and intellectual property disputes, real estate, banking, and oil and gas disputes. He is board certified in civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Ballard has also served on Bracewell & Giuliani’s Management Committee and currently serves on the committee managing the firm’s Litigation Section. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, the Texas Bar Foundation and the Houston Bar Foundation.

Also installed as new HBA officers were W. Thomas (Tommy) Proctor of W. Thomas Proctor, P.C., president-elect; Lynette K. Fons of Beirne, Maynard & Parsons, L.L.P., first vice president; Denise Scofield of Connelly•Baker•Maston•Wotring•Jackson LLP, second vice president; Barrett H. Reasoner of Gibbs & Bruns, L.L.P., secretary; and Travis J. Sales of Baker Botts L.L.P., treasurer. Sorrels will serve on the board as immediate past president.

New directors for 2006-2008 are Laura Gibson of Ogden, Gibson, White, Broocks & Longoria; Todd M. Frankfort of The Fullenweider Firm; David A. Chaumette of Shook, Hardy & Bacon, L.L.P.; and Thomas J. Brandt of Shell Oil Company. Completing terms as directors for 2005-2007 are M. Carter Crow of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P.; the Hon. David O. Fraga, municipal judge; William E. Junell, Jr. of Schwartz, Junell, Greenberg & Oathout, L.L.P.; and T. Mark Kelly of Vinson & Elkins L.L.P.
