Rudy Giuliani to Address D.C.-Area Legal Community at WMACCA Event on Corporate Compliance

April 17, 2006

Bracewell & Giuliani Name Partner's Keynote Address to Be Followed By Discussion On How Prosecutors and Regulators Are Influencing Corporate Behavior

McLean, Virginia, April 14, 2006 – Former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani will address the Washington, D.C.-area legal community for the first time at a corporate counsel event hosted by the Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association (WMACCA) on April 25 from noon-2 p.m. at The Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner, 1700 Tysons Boulevard, McLean, Virginia.

Giuliani, name partner at Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, will share his views on the effect that recent prosecutorial and regulatory actions are having on corporate officers and board directors.

"We are honored that one of America's great leaders, Mayor Giuliani, has chosen WMACCA as the venue for his first public speech to the Washington legal community," said Eric D. Reicin, WMACCA president.   "His perspectives on leadership, corporate responsibility, and the current climate in corporate America come from his extensive experience as a former federal prosecutor, as New York's chief executive in times of both crisis and peace, and as a respected lawyer and advisor to businesses."

New corporate governance regulations, heightened scrutiny by regulatory agencies, and increased mergers and acquisitions activity have changed the way business is being done, and particularly the role of in-house counsel in advising on critical business and legal decisions.  In addition, highly publicized corporate scandals have brought compliance to the forefront and led corporations to transform their legal departments.

Following Giuliani’s keynote remarks, a panel of in-house counsel and lawyers from Bracewell & Giuliani will discuss how corporate counsel can identify and resolve problems to reduce their company's risk of government investigation and the evolving role of corporate and criminal counsel in internal investigations.  Panelists will also discuss how to recognize and interpret warning signs that a specific industry is becoming a priority for scrutiny and how to decide when to fight or to acquiesce if a company is under government investigation.

"Today’s corporations are under more scrutiny than ever," said Marc Mukasey, a luncheon panelist and partner at Bracewell & Giuliani.  "We expect that the presentations and discussions at this event will assist multi-national companies with maintaining shareholder confidence and public trust.”

Scheduled panelists include:
