Lacey L. Gourley to Discuss Labor Relations Challenges for Non-Union Healthcare Organization
September 6, 2006
AUSTIN (September 6, 2006) — Bracewell & Giuliani labor and employment partner Lacey L. Gourley will speak at the Texas Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration and Education Annual Conference on Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Radisson Hotel on Town Lake in Austin, Texas.
Gourley’s presentation “Labor Relations for the Unorganized Texas Hospital” reviews the impact of the National Labor Relations Act on non-union hospitals and how Texas hospitals are facing new labor relations challenges from unions, which are working to organize differently than the traditional methods of direct contact with employees. She will recommend strategies for preparing for union organization activity such as identifying NLRA supervisors and updating and enforcing a facility’s solicitations and distributions policy. The presentation will also review the early warning signs of potential union organizing activity.
Gourley, who practices in the Austin office, concentrates on labor and employment law issues facing employers today with a special emphasis on defending employers in state and federal court litigation. Gourley’s practice also includes traditional labor law, including representing employers before the National Labor Relations Board, in arbitrations, collective bargaining, union campaigns and preparing union plans for federal contractors.
Gourley advises clients in all areas of labor and employment law, including all federal and state anti-discrimination statues, the WARN Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Pay Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Older Workers’ Benefits Protection Act. Gourley’s clients include Southwest Airlines Co., Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Target Stores.
The Texas Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration and Education Annual Conference will be attended by various healthcare organizations, hospitals, human resources representatives and administrators from throughout Texas. For more information, visit www.tshhrae.org.
