In 1994, Bracewell & Giuliani established a presence in the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the time, we played an early, leading role in helping that country create and expand its banking infrastructure, securities markets and commercial legal and court systems. In 1997, we formalized our commitment to clients doing business in the Caspian Region by opening our office in Almaty, followed by the opening of our Astana office in 2000.
We continue to advise the Government of Kazakhstan on the evolution of its business and legal infrastructure. We also help major international companies and banks in Kazakhstan with their financing, transactional, operational, tax and dispute-resolution needs. Our work is concentrated in the areas of capital markets, financing, oil and gas exploration and development, and energy and infrastructure finance. We also represent clients in dispute resolution in local courts, tax planning and litigation, corporate law, and securities and other financial transactions.
Bracewell & Giuliani is highly committed to supporting local communities wherever we have a presence. Our Kazakhstan office is no exception to this rule. For example, attorneys and staff in the city of Almaty joined the firm’s other offices in our annual Big Book Party. This global literacy project provides books and educational materials to underprivileged children; in Almaty, the firm worked directly with a local orphanage to provide materials for its library.
