Andrew Edison is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on complex commercial litigation matters. He handles cases in state courts, federal court and before arbitration panels across the country. Mr. Edison has handled a wide variety of matters, concentrating on energy litigation, antitrust, securities fraud, eminent domain and business torts. Mr. Edison is widely recognized as an innovative thinker and a passionate advocate.
As the firm's hiring partner, Mr. Edison is responsible for entry level recruiting firmwide. Mr. Edison also spends a considerable amount of time on pro bono matters. He represents an individual facing capital murder charges, and has been recognized by The Houston Bar Foundation as the Outstanding Individual Contribution to The Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program.
Mr. Edison is a frequent lecturer at various continuing legal education seminars across Texas. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center. Outside the office, Mr. Edison is the vice-president of the Dartmouth Club of Houston and an avid sports fan. He recently completed the Boston Marathon.
Representative Matters
Represented a large pipeline company from claims that it committed various business torts against its joint venture partner in a natural gas pipeline. Valero Energy Corp. v. Teco Pipeline Co., 2 S.W.3d 576; Tex. App. -- Houston [14th Dist.] 1999, no writ.
Represents one of the largest power marketers in private treble-damage antitrust litigation in California, Montana, Oregon and Washington arising out of the California Energy Crisis of 2000-2001.
Represents various governmental authorities including the Houston Independent School District and the City of Pearland in their eminent domain actions. Lin v. Houston Community College, 948 S.W.2d 328; Tex. App. -- Amarillo 1998, writ denied.
Represents one of the largest Mexican candy manufacturers in litigation brought by the California Attorney General under Proposition 65 (the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986) alleging lead contamination in candy.
Represents the Society of Lloyd's in ongoing litigation against members of Lloyd's in connection with outstanding underwriting obligations. Society of Lloyds v. Webb, 156 F. Supp. 2d 632; N.D. Tex. 2001.
Represents the world's largest funeral and cemetery company in securities fraud litigation after the company's stock dropped more than 40 percent in a single day.
Represented the nation's leading retail propane company in a multi-million contractual dispute. Obtained a unanimous arbitration award (3-0) dismissing all claims against his client.
Represented one of the nation's leading communications companies in a breach of contract arbitration. A sole arbitrator rendered an award that completely vindicated Mr. Edison's client of wrongdoing.
Represented one of the nation's largest engineering firms (and several of its employees) against a $7.5 million invasion of privacy claim. After plaintiff presented his case at trial, the court granted a directed verdict for client.
Represented numerous energy companies and other businesses in securities fraud and derivative litigation.
Represented one of the nation's largest engineering firms in a two-week jury trial. This case focused on the construction of an offshore drilling rig and involved numerous claims and counterclaims for fraud, breach of contract and negligence. The jury returned a verdict awarding client more than $1.1 million.
Represented two mid-size companies in a hotly contested dispute with more than $1 million at stake. The plaintiff alleged that it had entered into a contract to administer client's employee welfare plans for three years. Successfully argued the case before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
Represented a custom home builder against claims of fraud and negligence in connection with the construction and sale of a high-price home. The case was arbitrated under American Arbitration Association's Construction Industry Rules, and the custom home builder was cleared of wrongdoing.
Represented various clients in administrative matters before the Securities Exchange Commission, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and Commodities Futures Trading Commission.
