Glenn A. Ballard Jr. is head of the firm's trial section. Mr. Ballard's practice focuses on complex commercial litigation with emphasis on intellectual property, real estate, banking, and oil and gas disputes.

Mr. Ballard has practiced law in Texas since 1981 and is a resident in Bracewell & Giuliani LLP's Houston office. Mr. Ballard has tried cases at every level in state and federal courts. He has handled cases on both sides of the docket, and has won verdicts on the plaintiff's side of eight figures (Dallas County) and a take-nothing judgment on the defense side against a nine-figure claim (Harris County). He also has handled numerous arbitrations, winning an arbitration award of eight figures in 2005, and successfully defending against a multi-million dollar arbitration claim in 2004.

Representative clients include Baker Hughes Incorporated, Waste Management Inc., Fry's Electronics Inc., Weingarten Realty Investors, General Growth Properties Inc., Northern Trust Bank and Vetco Gray Inc.  Mr. Ballard also has argued in more than half of the state's appellate courts and in the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit and Federal Circuit.

Mr. Ballard has been voted by his peers as one of Texas' Super Lawyers every year since that distinction began in 2003, and he also has been voted as one of the Top 100 Houston lawyers. In addition, Mr. Ballard is listed as one of Houston's Top Lawyers for Business Litigation in HTexas Magazine in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Mr. Ballard is heavily involved not only with litigation, but also with the bar and the judiciary. He is president of the Houston Bar Association, 2006 to 2007. In addition, he has served as Chair of the Houston Bar Association Litigation Section from 1998 to 1999, and has co-chaired numerous bench bar conferences on both the state and federal levels. He also has chaired the Houston Volunteer Lawyer's Program which provides services to the indigent in Harris County, and the Dispute Resolution Center which provides free mediation services in Houston.

Mr. Ballard is currently serving a second term on the management committee of Bracewell.
