On May 6, Bracewell held its Diversity Strategic Planning Seminar, where attorneys from across the firm met to discuss and develop diversity initiatives for the next two years. The seminar was led by Dr. Arin Reeves, founder of The Athens Group and a specialist in law firm diversity and inclusion programs. Over fifty people attended the seminar representing numerous sections of the firm. Over 50 partners and associates from various offices and sections attended the seminar.
Dr. Reeves led attorneys, including members of Bracewell's Partner and Associate Inclusion Committees and the Management Committee, through several discussions focused on law firm diversity trends and issues, including topics ranging from partner-associate relationships to business development and human resources. Attorneys worked in teams to develop strategies and goals for building its diversity and inclusion programs.
In attendance at the seminar and dinner were the chairs of both the Partner and Associate Inclusion Committees. Paul Fox, Partner and Management Committee member will serve as Management Committee liaison for inclusion initiatives. Daynor Carman, Connecticut Associate in the Financial Restructuring Group will serve as the Chair for the Associate Inclusion Committee.
Mr. Fox truly believes in the ability of the committee to make a difference in such important matters such as diversity and make it a "mainstream economic issue" for the firm. He also said that Bracewell, "needs to capture the value of investment in diversity" for a more promising future pool of lawyers and associates, as well as administrative personnel. There have been many positive thoughts expressed about the seminar and how taking the right steps will help keep the Committee fully functional. Mr. Fox noted that "two keywords were used frequently during the event, inclusion and diversity," and as long as those two goals remain the focus, the Partner and Associate Inclusion Committee will keep moving in the right direction.
