UH BAA was founded in 1988 as a special interest constituency of the University of Houston Alumni Association. Its mission is to strengthen the relationship between UH and its alumni; advance the interests and promote the welfare of the university; reunite black alumni with friends and classmates; and serve as a vehicle to address various concerns, issues and needs that impact black students, faculty, alumni, and the community in general.

On March 12, the UH BAA held its 21st annual scholarship and awards gala of which Bracewell & Giuliani was an enthusiastic event sponsor. Event proceeds benefited UHBAA scholarships; programs; and the African American Initiative for Scholarships, which includes UH Black Alumni, UH Cougars Athletic Alliance, and the Black Leadership Network of faculty and staff at UH. This year, Bracewell Partner Jarvis Hollingsworth (UH System Board of Regents member), was named Honorary Chair.
